The Arena da Baixada is a stadium located in the city of Curitiba in the state of Parana, Brazil. The stadium has undergone extensive refurbishment in preparation for the 2014 Football World Cup and will host four group stages during the event.
The Arena da Baixada was built in the 1990s and hosted its inaugural match in 1999. Despite being one of the most modern stadiums in the country it underwent significant refurbishment when the city of Curitiba was given hosting rights for the World Cup.
Changes to the stadium during refurbishments included the installation of a retractable roof and an increase in seating capacity that will raise seating from just under 29,000 to approximately 44,000 seats. The stadium has been plagued by controversy during construction due to alleged safety breaches.
